Welcome to Pittsylvania County Schools
“A Great Place to Learn and Work!”

Dear Parents and Community Members:

It is with immense pride and heartfelt enthusiasm that I greet you today as your new Superintendent of Pittsylvania County Schools (PCS). Having grown up in this community, attended Pittsylvania County Schools from kindergarten through my graduation from Dan River High School, and dedicated the majority of my 25-year career in education to serving our students right here, this appointment is more than just a new role – it is a profound honor.

I have a deep connection to Pittsylvania County. My wife is a teacher at Dan River Middle School, and our daughter is a student at Dan River High School. We are a family deeply invested in the success and well-being of our schools and the students we serve. This lived experience, coupled with my journey from PCS student to this role, has provided me with a comprehensive and unique understanding of the opportunities and challenges before us.

My philosophy of educational administration is grounded in the belief that our students are our most valuable asset. Together, we must ensure our schools are nurturing environments where every student can achieve their full potential – intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically. This means fostering a culture of continuous improvement, supporting our exceptional teachers and staff, and managing our resources effectively to directly benefit student learning and well-being.

I am excited to build upon the strong foundation of excellence that defines Pittsylvania County Schools. We are indeed "A Great Place to Learn and Work", and I am committed to upholding and advancing this legacy. As we gaze into the future, I look forward to working collaboratively with our dedicated School Board, talented staff, engaged parents, and supportive community partners as we continue to provide an innovative, challenging, and exemplary education for all.

I look forward to listening, learning, and engaging with all of you. Your insights, experiences, and aspirations for our schools are invaluable as we chart our course forward. I am eager to visit our schools, meet with our educators and students, and connect with parents and community members across the County. I am deeply committed to its bright future and each member of our school family. Thank you for the trust you have placed in me. I am ready to get to work and serve you.

Sincerely,
Steven D. Mayhew
